We're looking for any history about our new building at 22 1st St NE.  Most people know this building as the "C & H Building."   I think these initials stand for Charles Hagen.  Please correct me if I'm wrong.

That was my eye doctor’s office from age 12 to ? It was called the C&H building for years. My eye doctor was Dr. Clarence Hagen(his nickname started with H, maybe it was Hack). Dr. Hagen and his wife Joyce were great friends of mine—they lived in the beautiful white house on the blvd, corner of 8th St and 1st Ave SE, right next door to Barbara Neilsen, until they sold and moved to Wisconsin, to be near their son Jon. Dr. Hagen’s associate was Dr. Jerry Ihrke. Later, after Dr. Hagen retired, Dr. Ihrke built his new office behind Prime Bank, and Paul Schroeder joined him in practice(that’s probably been 20 to 25 years!) Do you know Shirley Lang? (Norm’s wife) —she worked for Dr. Hagen in that building since I was 12, now works for Shroeder & Ihrke—I’m sure she has lots of stories of the history of that building). I’ll have to ask her daughter Darci—she is a waitress for us. Good luck on the renovation!

I said something to Jim about the building, he used to deliver papers there(around 1962) it was all apartments at that time. I probably went there in 1965 when it was an office. I’d love a tour, I spent enough time there as a kid, glasses contacts, etc.

Jim Flaherty had his insurance business on the east end for a while and there was a hair salon on the west side at one time. We have also heard there was a trucking company there too.
